Intervention/exposure
Study type
Interventional
Description of intervention(s) / exposure
The participants were randomised to receive each of the following interventions in a random order: control intervention, where participants performed squats in the platform, without vibration; squats with whole body vibration frequency of 25 Hz and squats with whole body vibration frequency of 50 Hz. The participants were invited to visit the facilities for 3 times and the cross-over trial had a wash out period of one week. The intervention was squatting with whole body vibration for 60 seconds, followed by 60 seconds of rest, with five repetitions. The exercises were supervised by physiotherapists trained in the method.

Comparator / control treatment
No secondary control group. The subjects will be their own control. The control intervention was squatting without whole body vibration for 60 seconds, followed by 60 seconds of rest, with five repetitions.

Outcomes
Primary outcome [1] 297752 0
Electromyographic activity, expressed by the route mean square, of both quadriceps vastus, semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles, bilaterally.

Timepoint [1] 297752 0
The electromyographic activity was assessed for 30 seconds before each exposure, for 60 seconds during each squatting and for 30 seconds after the exposure.
Secondary outcome [1] 322130 0
Perceived subjective effort, measured with the Borg Scale.
Timepoint [1] 322130 0
After each trial.

Statistical methods / analysis
Assuming alpha, 2-tailed, is set at .05, for an effect size of 0.65, and a priori analysis, for Anova repeated measures, within factors, we would need a sample of 8 participants, with 3 repetitions of measurements, to yield power of 95%.
Descriptive and Inferential analysis.
