Intervention/exposure
Study type
Interventional
Description of intervention(s) / exposure
The therapy consisted 4 week session of 30-minute each, carried out 3 times per week. 8 manual techniques were applied: stroking, superficial rubbing using spiral and transverse motions, deep running using spiral and transverse motions, moving, rolling, breaking-up, and pinching. All manual techniques were performed directly on the scar. Therapy was lead by Bsc of physiotherapy (Katarzyna Olszewska) under control PhD.PT of physiotherapy (Malgorzata Stefanska)

Evaluation in tissue structure before and after manual therapy and comparative study between test group and control group. The scars were evaluated twice with the use of quantitative scales: the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS), the Manchester Scar Scale (MSS), and the POSAS (Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale) Patient Scale.

Summary
Brief summary
The aim of the study was to evaluate the changes in the structure of the caesarean scar as a result of therapy. It was assumed that the therapy will improve the functional condition of the scar. 30 women (15 in the treatment group and 15 in the control group) participated in the study. The interval between the caesarean section and the study was 14 months on average. The scars were evaluated twice at a 5-week interval with the use of quantitative scales: the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS), the Manchester Scar Scale (MSS), and the POSAS (Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale) Patient Scale. During each examination, the scar was compared – using the specified criteria – to the physiological skin, i.e. the tissues directly bordering the incision. The therapy consisted 4 week session of 30-minute each, carried out 3 times per week. 8 manual techniques were applied: stroking, superficial rubbing using spiral and transverse motions, deep running using spiral and transverse motions, moving, rolling, breaking-up, and pinching.
